Renée van
Staveren was raised in Granite Bay, California. As a
child she played in neighborhood creeks and explored the
local olive orchards. At the age of fifteen she awoke
to our ecological crisis. As the olive orchards she
played in were slowly bulldozed for tracked homes and Placer
County, California boomed she awoke to an endemic degree of eco-apathy.
She developed a sense of urgency regarding environmental
degradation that was supreme to the populous.
While her heart has always remained with the environment, she has
explored many areas of interest including public health,
literacy, transportation, and recycling within the public, non-profit, and
private sectors. Her diverse experiences make her
well-rounded and knowledgeable about various organizational
structures.
She holds an M.S. in Urban and Regional
Planning, concentrated in Environmental Planning and Policy
from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (2010).
She also holds a B.A. in Sustainable Community Development,
with an emphasis in Environmental Studies from Prescott
College (2008).
Her
interests lie in balancing essential human and non-human
needs through the development and redevelopment of
sustainable, livable, and affordably designed density while
reducing human ecological footprints.
Today, Renée
lives in Istanbul, Turkey where she operates
